The Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA) is home to six hospitals, numerous biomedical and pharmaceutical research centers and multiple Harvard Medical School-affiliated teaching institutions.  For the past 25 years, the LMA has been supplied with steam, chilled water, and electricity by the Medical Area Total Energy Plant (MATEP LLC), which now serves more than 9 million square feet of space.
